What we do?

Governing Bodies have three core functions, which are:

• Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction for the School;
• Holding the School’s Leadership Team to account for the educational performance of the
organisation and its pupils, and the performance management of staff;
• Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its budgets are
efficiently, effectively and properly spent.

From these functions it can be seen that the Board of Governors operate at the strategic level and not the operational level.

The School’s Leadership Team (Headteacher, Assistant Headteacher and assisted by the School Business Manager) are responsible for the day the day running of the school.

How we do it?

• The Governing Board consists entirely of governors who consider and agree/disagree with the School Improvement Plan (SIP), prepared by the School Leadership Team (SLT), which provides the key strategic parameters for teaching and learning within the School.
• SIP document is regularly reviewed to ensure that it remains current;
• Apart from the main Governing Board, there is only one committee -The Executive Committee, which consists of appointed governors and has responsibility for leadership issues such as finance, staffing, buildings, etc. This Committee meets twice per term and reports back to the main Governing Body, although it has some limited delegated powers.
